Today I am welcoming Giana Vasconcellos, MPH, Perinatal Health Educator, Doula & Student Midwife!  Join us as we discuss common problems within the maternal healthcare system, including, the Maternal Care Deserts.  If you live in America, you’re more than likely in one of these deserts where access to care and access to choice is not reality for every woman in the way that it should be.  Tune in as we discuss various scenarios and how you can navigate finding a care provider, advocating for yourself throughout your pregnancy and finding perinatal-postpartum support!

Thank you for tuning in. If you enjoy the episode, please subscribe, share and leave a review!

A city girl, gone hippie, Giana was born and raised in Los Angeles.  Giana dreamed of a high powered position with a corner office in DTLA.  As she got older, she married an East Coast guy, had her first baby and suddenly her goals shifted!  Giana has become a passionate researcher, story teller, birth worker, educator, course creator, doula and midwifery assistant.  Her background in public health focuses on maternal and child health research.

She is an avid reader and has found herself drawn to birth from a historical perspective. You can often find her on a rant about the way birth became institutionalized and set up systematically.

Giana is a Bible believing Christian, wife to her very best friend and partner in this life, and mother to 2 little men who give her so much joy. She’s had 1 hospital birth and 1 home birth. She loves traveling, trying new foods, books, and beach days.

“I believe we all have had our intuitions dulled with the influx of information from various outlets. It is my goal to empower my clients and students with information, to identify their intuition, their source of faith, and restore their confidence in their bodies. You will hear me talk a lot about care models, intuitive decision making, and surrender.”
